Essential Life Skills Class

Witness your dog’s transformation in this foundations group class filled with fun, learning, and lots of tail wags! Recommended for dogs under 2 years of age. 

Apply your skills learned in class to a variety of situations!

You can expect the curriculum to include life skills applicable to so many different situations! Take your skills to the park, your local cafe patio, hiking, a friend's house and so much more!

There's less stress when you can read your dog's body language!

Our dogs are always communicating. Knowing how to read body signals is key for both you and your dog to be less stressed and adapt to new situations easier!

What to expect

Location: Holy Trinity Anglican Church - 7252 7 St, Grand Forks, BC 

Investment: $360 + GST ($60 per class)

All participants much submit proof of at least 2 sets of vaccinations.

Small class size (up to 5 dogs) = feedback is more personalized.

Due to the indoor setting and basic skills goals of the class we are unable to accept reactive dogs in this class. (ex. barking/lunging on a leash at others) Need help with your dog's reactivity? Book check out our private training or book a consultation.

Shape a new behaviour

Marker words or clickers are used to connect behaviour to reinforcement for quick, effective learning. 

Before we put a name (cue) to a behaviour we capture ideal behaviour with our marker word. 

 A nose touch to the palm of your hand or finger is applicable to sooo many training situations!

Eye contact in response to the dog's name is great for grabbing thier attention around distractions. 

Useful foundation for teaching settling on a mat, getting nail clips etc. The uses are endless!

Great for your dogs to settle into a new environment, when guests come to the door or when your eating at the dinner table. 

Foundation for "wait", a cued behaviour used in daily life around doors, stairs, cars etc. 

Foundation of leash walking and used to facilitate more advanced skills. Building on the "touch" cue, having our dogs follow our target hand while moving. 

Approach a hand target from a distance. This is a vital skills for all dogs to learn that could be a lifesaver some day. Distractions are added methodically.  

Leave items alone and take the food when cued. Useful for when food, medication or other harmful items may fall on the ground or be found out on walks.

Learn how to make loose leash walking fun for your dog through easy exercises that start with low distraction levels to help your dog succeed!

Shaping is an effective handler skill used to help our dogs reach a goal behaviour by creating small achievable steps to get there. An important skill for the dedicated dog guardian. Using a novel object we practice shaping and adding a cue. 

Adding small distractions to each exercise will make it easier for you both to transition to the real world.
